Holy Trinity Church in Novorossiysk - Orthodox Church related to the ROC, to date, has the status of acting. In everyday life still carries the name of the Holy Trinity of All Who Sorrow Cathedral, Trinity Church, Holy Trinity Church.
The history of the construction and operation of the church is rather complicated. The first wooden church building was constructed in 1893 and consecrated in honor of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow." Then, when the church was opened two parochial schools, where classes were held separately for pupils and students.
After the expansion of the boundaries of Novorossiysk through the inclusion of new areas of the city limits (Mefodievka, cement plant, Standard) in 1900 a small church could no longer contain all believers. Started raising funds to build a new stone church, and from the royal treasury added 1000 rubles. Thus, in December 1906 solemnly consecrated the new church. It was built from the local light gray limestone, which from a distance, and especially to the sea seemed white. Almost 30 meters above the dome of the bell tower stands a cross, perfectly visible from all parts of the city and the sea, becoming a reliable navigation sign for the sailors.
Trinity had built the temple (the main) throne and the chapel of All Who Sorrow, hence the name - the Holy Trinity Church of All Who Sorrow. In many documents called the cathedral parish, then serve in it were several priests. Cathedral attended working seaport, oil refineries and cement plants, customs officials and the railroad.
In February 1938 the service in the cathedral were stopped by the authorities, and in March of the church confiscated religious items. In 1942, Nazi troops occupied Novorossiisk and service in the church resumed. However, after some time, the Germans realized that the meeting of local residents in the underground churches use for campaigning and residents prayed for the victory of Russian troops over the invaders, and after Easter in 1942 they published a decree banning religious meetings under the pretext of protecting the population against shelling.
After the liberation of Novorossiysk, from the beginning of 1945 the church building served as a warehouse military unit, in 1947 the community asked for the restoration of the temple, but referring to the dilapidated state of the building, the city executive committee in 1951 decided to dismantle the church. Thus, by the decision of executive committee in 1957, the Holy Trinity Church of All Who Sorrow blew. On the foundation of the Church in 1963 built the first Novorossiysk cinema "Russia".
Only In 1996 year, after numerous requests of believers cinema building was allowed to be used for church services. And in 1997, the building of the cinema hosted the first liturgy and consecrated altar in honor of the Trinity. Since 2008, the building and the surrounding area belongs to the parish of Holy Trinity Church.
