Cathedral of the Transfiguration Orthodox cathedral is the oldest in the city of Novokuznetsk. The temple is located on the high bank of the river Tom.

Stone building of the cathedral was laid in 1792 and was a two-story church with three altars. In 1801, the solemn consecration of the first floor to the throne in honor of St. John the Baptist and St. Nicholas. For many years, the construction of the cathedral reflected in his appearance. The peculiarity of the temple was in the abundance of baroque domes. The architectural style of the cathedral on the strict proportions of volumes embodied the style of classicism with some fragments of the late "Siberian baroque". In December 1837 the bell tower of the church bell was raised, and in 1839 the altar made cast iron floor. In 1907, in the cathedral made major repairs since it became dilapidated, especially after several earthquakes.

In December 1919, when the cathedral was set on fire antikolchakovskih performances. In 1926, the parishioners have put in order the first floor of the church, after which the service is resumed. In 1929 the church was closed and placed in his room Geological Museum, and after - school combine and bakery. In the 1960s. the city authorities are planning to do a restaurant. And only in 1989 the City Council decided to refer the temple of the Orthodox community. In 1991, in a renovated building of the cathedral took place the first worship.
