Kolmanskop Ghost Town is located ten kilometers from the town of Luderitz. In 1908, the railway worker Zacharias Levan found a sparkling stone in the sand near the railroad. His discovery was the beginning of the diamond rush Kolmanskop. Over the next decade Kolmanskop became a bustling European city, a small paradise of German culture. They were built big beautiful homes, a school, a stadium, a swimming pool. Well equipped hospital could boast the first in Africa, the X-ray unit. The discovery of new, rich deposits of diamonds, brought an end to the prosperity of the city. People had left him and the desert became inexorably to attack the city.
