Miskolc National Theatre is the main theater of the city and the oldest theater in Hungary. The current building was erected on the site burned down in a fire Miskolc 19 July 1843 the theater, which was built in Miskolc in the period from 1819 po1823 years. It was the second made entirely of stone theater in Hungary (the first was in Cluj-Napoca). Construction of a new theater building in classical style (exterior) and the Neo-Baroque (interior) began September 3, 1847 according to the plans of Joseph Cassano funded by insurance payments and social contributions, but a year later suspended due to the 1848 revolution. In 1850, after a visit to Miskolc Emperor Franz Joseph I Building was resumed, and finally, 3 September 1857, the theater was opened. For several years, the lower floors of the building were occupied by shops (the theater was partly funded by their lease), and the upper levels are home to the Casino International.
In 1880 the building was renovated and expanded tall tower was built with the famous clock, which beat every time the presentation begins. In 1914, the theater of the former corporation, became the property of the Municipality of Miskolc.
In 1990, the theater waiting for a new reconstruction - an area almost doubled - 16, 000 square meters will house five separate halls, and in the basement of the theater was opened a museum dedicated to the history of the city of Miskolc.
Every year in the National Theatre Opera Festival held a large gathering of fans singing magnificent from all over Europe.
