State Museum of Theatre and Music Culture of Belarus was opened on 23 March 1990. The museum is located in the historical center of Minsk, in the Music Lane, 5. The total exhibition area of the museum - 362 square meters. m.
The building where the museum is located, was built at the beginning of the XIX century in baroque style. This structure is known in Minsk under the name House of Masons. The plan is a form of the Masonic cross. Legend has it that in this house met Masonic lodge called "North Torch." Unfortunately, probably because of the secrecy that hides the activities of Freemasons, the legend has no documentary evidence.
House Masons was transferred to the State Museum of Theatre and Music Culture in 2011 after restoration.
Now the museum has 10 collections of musical instruments, music manuscripts, documentary materials, photographs and photographic reproductions, posters and programs, visual materials, phonorecording, videos, memorabilia.
Especially interesting the public are such interesting displays as "Origins of theatrical and musical culture on the territory of Belarus," where you can see ancient national Belarusian musical instruments zhaleyka, earwigs, accordion, rattles, bagpipes, whistles, and others. The exhibition "Batleyka" tells the People Belarusian Puppet Theater.
The museum has constantly held thematic exhibitions dedicated to the Belarusian music and theater, festivals, lectures, chamber concerts, balls.
