Bernardine monastery was founded by two brothers Andrew and Ian Konsovskiy in 1624. Andrew Konsovskiy being Krasnoselskii warden was able to get permission to build a wooden church of the Order of Bernardine.

Belarus called Bernardine Franciscan-Observants - a branch of the Franciscan order of monks associated with the name of St. Bernardine of Siena. Bernardine played an important role in the development of Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. They assist the poor and the sick, build shelters, taught the children. Bernardine Funds collected in the surrounding villages, often received donations in-kind, so the Bernardine Monastery emerging markets.

Very quickly, from the wooden church was built as a residence and transferred Bernardine wooden house grew a quarter. However, during the great fire in Minsk in 1644 wooden buildings were burned.

In 1652 it was built a stone church of Saint Joseph, the Blessed Virgin Mary Elect and monastery building. Subsequently, the building of the monastery was repeatedly burned and rebuilt. Due to the great popularity among the people of Bernardine, came to the monastery all the new people. For sisters Bernardine Monastery was built separate. Monastic buildings occupied by the quarter called Bernardine. He was between the streets of the Big and Small Bernardine, Zybitskoy and the area of ​​the Upper Market. At the monastery was a hospital, a school, a stable, brewery and other outbuildings.

In the course of a thorough restructuring in 1752, the monastery has acquired baroque features.

The Russian authorities have not complained about Bernardine, because they lived on their own statute and is a state within a state. So, in 1863, Bernardine supported the January national liberation uprising in Poland, for which the monastery was confiscated by the authorities.

For all subsequent half-century former convent building were occupied by various civil needs. Bernardine monastery building was handed over to the Orthodox Church. In the remaining quarter from a large monastery church of St. Joseph right now is an archive of scientific and technical documentation. The plans of the current authorities in Minsk does not include the transfer of the church Catholics, it is planned to open the hotel.
