In 1700-1710 gg. on the territory of the Upper Town in Minsk Catholic church was built in the Jesuit monastery. The cathedral was a model of Vilnius Baroque, its interiors decorated with rich frescoes and figures of the 12 apostles, carved out of wood. Jesuit church has long remained the tallest building in the city of Minsk. Due to the fact that in 1773, Pope Clement XIV dissolved the Jesuit Order, in 1798 was created Diocese of Minsk - Catholic parishes run by the bishop, the church received the status of a cathedral, consecrated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Temple in the years visited such famous historical figures like Peter I, the Swedish King Karl XII, Hetman Mazepa, French Marshal Davoust, Decembrist Nikita Ants, Emperor Nicholas II.

During World War II the cathedral was badly damaged in 1951, it was closed in order to change its appearance beyond recognition - the two towers of the cathedral was demolished and rebuilt the central facade, adapting the building for accommodation for athletes sports society "Spartacus."

By 2000, the cathedral is not only restored its original appearance, but was returned to believers. Today Archcathedral Cathedral of the Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the main Catholic church in Minsk.   I can complement the description
