Sant Eustorgio Basilica - the church in Milan, located on the territory of the city park Basil. For many years it was an important pilgrimage center for the pilgrims coming from Rome to the Holy Land, as it is here, according to tradition, the tomb of the biblical three kings - Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar.

Probably, the basilica was founded in the 4th century. It bears the name of St. Eustorgius - Bishop of Milan, who is credited with the movement, and in 344, the year of the relics of the Three Kings from Constantinople. In 1764, the year when the old tower was demolished, it was found underneath a Christian burial from the time of Emperor coins Constant, the son of Constantine the Great. Later, the church was rebuilt in the Romanesque style. In the 12th century, when Milano was subjected to raids by Frederick Barbarossa, the power of the kings kidnapped and later transported to Cologne. Only in 1903-1904 bone fragments and clothing items were returned to the basilica. Today, they are stored in the altar of the Three Kings, next to the empty sarcophagus of the same name. Also on this day, in memory of biblical characters, church bell tower surmounted by a star instead of the traditional cross.

Since the 13th century Basilica of St. Eustorgio was the main temple of Milan Dominican monks, who called for its restoration. The current facade of the building - the result of the reconstruction of the 19th century. Inside the church consists of a central nave and two side chapels with Groin vault. From the Romanesque church was preserved only a part of the apse, and from the early Christian buildings - the ruins are located underground in the apse. Also inside the Basilica of the chapel, construction of which began from the 14th century. Special mention deserves the chapel of the 15th century, the tomb of the Renaissance triptych and Ambrogio Bergonone. In other, more ancient chapels, you can see the frescoes of Giotto and the tombs of students members of the family Visconti. Behind the apse is perhaps the most prominent landmark of the Basilica - Portinari chapel of the 15th century, one of the famous Renaissance art samples of Lombardy.
