Basilica of St. Anthony is a ten minute walk from the center of Melnik. The church is located on the territory of cultural and historical architectural reserve "Melnik".
The temple was built in 1765. The shape of the basilica, built of stones and bricks, held together with a special solution, resembles a large ship. Facade with four asymmetrically placed windows and the main entrance - the widest part of the building, which gradually narrows. Inside the church is richly decorated with frescoes: flowers, cherubs, seraphim, angels and others. Exceptional value are the iconostasis and icons (especially the "Mother of God" and "Holy Virgin").
It is the only one in Bulgaria and the Balkans church named in honor of St. Anthony the Great. In Christianity, the patron saint is mentally ill. According to legend, the temple has miraculous properties. All patients with mental disorders, which are held in the church overnight, healed the Saint Anthony. The temple remained rod with an iron chain, which was intended for the violent mentally ill.
Currently, basil is a cultural monument of national importance.
