Marianske Lazne, Czech as well as any city that lives off tourism, proud of the illustrious personalities who elected him to relax, come here many times and have recommended to friends. Among them were the monarchs and writers, musicians and conductors, poets and literary critics, actors and politicians. Loved Marianske Lazne and the great German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He always stayed at the guest house, which is now converted into a museum. The memory of visits by Goethe in Marianske Lazne is fixed not only on the information plate. His love and gratitude to the famous German locals expressed their setting in the city several monuments. One of them is located on Getevom náměstí (Getevoy area).
The first monument on this place was opened in 1932, when the whole world remembers Goethe due to the fact that the 100th anniversary of his death. The sculpture is the author of "Faust" created the architect Willy Russ. However, this monument has not survived the horrors of the Second World War. It destroyed during the fighting, and the city for a long time without it. Only a stone with a commemorative plaque informs all curious that earlier this spot was a sculpture depicting a brooding Goethe sat on a bronze bench.
At the end of the XX century city administration raised the question of the restoration of the monument to the great poet in the same place. There was a competition among sculptors. As the creator of the future sculpture was selected Vítězslav Eibl. In 1993 Getevoy square reappeared bench, where at any time you can see the old-but such a recognizable poet recreated in bronze.
