St Paul's Church was built in 1575 and rebuilt in 1692 on the site of an ancient chapel. Beneath it is a grotto where a few weeks Paul preached. According to another legend, where he languished in prison. In 1990, Pope John Paul II visited the grotto and pray here. His farewell prayer "God bless Malta and the Maltese" is written in a commemorative plate.
