Islands Savage Islands - a small Portuguese archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean, between the island of Madeira and the Canary Islands. This archipelago consists of two main islands and several islets of different sizes. The islands are divided into two groups: the Savage Islands Grande (Big Savage Islands) and the Savage Islands Peck (Small Savage Islands). The islands belong to Portugal, the management carried out from Funchal, and the territory is part of the district of Se district of Madeira. The archipelago is surrounded by dangerous reefs and are considered to be the southernmost point of Portugal.

In 1971, the islands were given the rank of a natural reserve, since it is one of the most important places to build their nests, some species of seabirds, such as the Mediterranean shearwater, which is considered an endangered species, Macaronesian shearwater. Also on the island of white-faced storm petrels nest, Madeira petrel, Mediterranean gull, Canary skate and many other birds and reptiles, which are studied by annual scientific expeditions. Sit down here to relax and migratory birds such as petrel Bulwer.

Given the remoteness of the island and the limited supply of fresh water, as well as its status, the island is uninhabited. On the island there are only reserve staff and scientists who explore the wildlife islands, as well as employees of the naval forces of Portugal, who follow the beacons on the Big and Small Savage Islands Savage Islands. Sometimes the islands are small groups of tourists arrive, received for this special permission from the authorities in the region of Madeira. Without this permission it is impossible to get to the island.

Islands Savage Islands were once a disputed territory between Spain and Portugal, but in 1938 the International Maritime Committee confirmed that the islands fall under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese Republic. Estimated opening date of the islands - in 1438. But there is an assumption that the islands were discovered earlier in the second half of the XIV century.
