An architectural monument of national importance Brody Castle located in the town of Brody, Lviv region. The first mention of the construction of the castle belong to the 80th of of the XVI century. Following the acquisition in 1629, the then Polish city of Hetman Stanislaw Koniecpolski built a castle-type bastion. Brody Castle was built in 1630 - 1635 years. by the famous French architect de Boplana and under the watchful eyes of Italian engineer Andrea del Aqua.
Pentagonal plan castle was made up of five groups of trees (trees) and bastions, which were located in the middle of the casemates. Around the castle there was a deep ditch, brimming with water from time to time. To get to the fortress could be from the city across the drawbridge, as well as the dam. All 75 casemates were used as warehouses and barracks. On Detinets until the middle of the XVIII century is a wooden house in which they lived commandant of the fortress and the owners of the city, and a wooden chapel.
The castle and the castle withstood the siege of all the Cossack troops during the Khmelnytsky uprising in 1648 during the Battle of Berestechko construction played the role of the Polish military base.
The first renovation of the fortress took place in the late 1660s.
In 1812, Vincent Potocki, following the order of the Austrian government, to understand the construction of the part of the city. Then they destroyed Gate Clock Tower, Ravelin, two bastions and a moat filled. Until now preserved two bastions, three and a half curtain with casemates and Stanislav Potocki built a two-storey palace of the XVIII century on the castle courtyard.
In the postwar period Brody Castle was badly damaged by rearrangements. At the initiative of the regional authorities and the museum in 2007, work began on its restoration.
