Old Theatre in Lublin was built in 1822 by architect Luca Rodakievichem in classical style on the site of the destroyed building of the 16th century. The first performance took place on October 20, 1822. In 1845 the building was sold at auction to the Polish nobleman Paul Biernacki.
Despite its modest size: small auditorium, balcony, as well as the stage, illuminated by oil lamps, the theater enjoyed the love of the public. At the end of the 19th century Lublin was built a new large theater which gave performances touring troupes and circus performers.
The old theater was closed in 1981. Later, in a building several times flashed fires that destroyed props and interiors. In 1994, one regional fund acquired a theater for 100 gold, promising to repair it for two years. This fund is not a promise kept, and the building was turned into ruins. In January 2005, prosecutors accused the president of causing intentional Fund harm the theater building, after which it was transferred to the city. World Monuments Fund (WMF) including the old theater in the list of 100 buildings endangered. Repair work began in 2007, the cost of reconstruction was estimated at 26 million. PLN 20 million. Of which was from the European Union of Lublin.
Inauguration of the restored theater took place on March 11, 2012 concert "Luz de Guia", performed by guitarist Jose Fernandez. The opening was attended by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and his wife, as well as many other major political parties and actors.
As a result, the reconstruction of the theater, there are two additional floors, now the theater can accommodate 165 guests.
Currently, old theater is a place of diverse cultural events. In addition to a rich theatrical program offers concerts, thematic meetings and educational activities for children.
