Kolossi Castle was built in the XIII century, but in the XV, namely the years 1454-1455, some time after it settled the Knights Templar, it is almost completely rebuilt. Then the castle was a whole complex of fortified buildings, almost all of which in a fairly good state of preservation to the present day.
On its territory, surrounded by a protective moat, can be reached by traditional for such buildings drawbridge. Also, there is still possible to see and visit one of the key elements of the fortress - a three-story tower, which dominates the surrounding area of 25 meters. And on the facade of the castle are still visible family coat of arms belonging to the Lusignan dynasty, as well as the emblem of Jerusalem, who briefly held the family. In addition, one of the main attractions of the Colossus is a sugar factory, which in its time was one of the best on the island, but at the moment, unfortunately, from it remained almost in ruins. It was there that the Templars began the production of the famous wine "Commandaria", which is considered one of the most prestigious wines in the world.
Kolossi Castle, in spite of its relatively small size, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Limassol. This place is a must visit for those who want to experience the charming atmosphere of antiquity, as well as enjoy the beautiful views of the old part of town.
