Archaeological Museum of Limassol assembled an amazing collection of antiquities from the Neolithic period to the Roman Empire. Founded as early 1948, it was originally located in the city fortress. Some time later, during the Civil War 60s, the castle was handed over to the military, because of what the museum had to be moved to another building, where he remains to this day.
The museum collection illustrates the huge impact on the culture of Cyprus other countries - Greece, Egypt, Rome, despite its geographical isolation.
All the exhibits that were found during excavations in the vicinity of Limassol, divided into thematic groups and are arranged in three spacious rooms, some also on display in the corridors of the building. In the first room you can see the items found in the southern part of the county, in so-called caves Akrotiri. Basically, it is the product of different times of clay - pots, amphorae, jugs, but there are stone tools, articles of glass and ivory.
In the second room are located brassware, jewelry and fine jewelry, coins, lamps. There are also exhibited, and personal items, such as razors.
But in the third hall of the museum contains all the most valuable exhibits - there are ancient statues of various deities, including Artemis and Bes, the tombstones, marble products.
In addition, in the park, which is located directly in front of the museum put on display some interesting exhibits, for example, once belonged to the famous philanthropist Lord Kitchener sundial.
