Near the castle is the central square of Kromeriz - Velke namesti. Rectangular area was once a place where trade fairs were held. Around her, in fact, he built the city, it was and remains the heart of the old quarter of Kroměříž. Its area is 1 hectare.
The area appeared a little later the castle - at the end of the XIII century. Nowadays, on the perimeter of the square you can see the old houses built in the Renaissance style, which was built here in the XVII century. Particular attention should be paid to the buildings at numbers 21 and 23, they are just fine.
Because of the large size of the area it seems deserted. Tourists usually enjoy this circumstance, since nothing prevents them to make beautiful pictures of local architecture. But we should not delude ourselves: the area comes alive at night, there's going to couples in love, youth, which cuts through the roller and skate, older people occupying the tables of street cafes. The area to this day remains a place of meetings and partings, there are dating and are going to a big company.
But peace and quiet hours of the day you need not miss the opportunity to look around carefully. Here you can see the town hall, built in 1668. This is a very picturesque building in the Renaissance style is replicated on many local postcards. The place where the seat of the magistrate of the city, miraculously not damaged by enemy armies and fire, so came to our days without significant alterations.
In the square there is Velke mandatory and traditional for many Czech cities plague column, dated 1680 year. There is also a fountain - too old, which already was three and a half centuries.
