National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History - the oldest and largest museum in Moldova. It is located in the capital city - Chisinau, M. Kogalniceanu Street. The initiator of the museum became Baron A Stewart. Founded in October 1889 as a museum of agriculture, it was located in another building. The facility has repeatedly changed its name, but in spite of that, the main idea - the study of the culture and the nature of the historical region of Bessarabia - remained unchanged.
Initially, all the exhibition housed in another building, because at that time there was no other space to store them. To select an architect for the agricultural, handicraft and Zoological Museum of Bessarabia was a competition, which won the V. Tsygankov. In 1905, the architect designed a new building for the museum, whose construction ended in 1907. After that, all the museum exhibits were moved to a new location. The building was made in psevdomavritanskom style with a charming balcony and the original window openings.
Today, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History - an important scientific and cultural center of Bessarabia, known far beyond the country.
The museum consists of two halls. The first room is dedicated to the flora and fauna of Moldova.
