The oldest of the surviving civilian buildings Podil undergone a lot of rework, is a House of Peter I. According to legend, here in 1706 Peter I stopped to guide the construction of Pechersk fortress. In the future, the house belonged to enter Kiev Bykovskii contained therein tavern. Then he settled down here, "Grey House" orphanage, parish school. Built House of Peter was at the turn of 17-18 centuries as residential. After the revolution, the room was given to the communal. But in 1974, the building was restored. Now the room belongs to the Museum of History of Kiev charity.
The exposition of the Museum of charity (furniture, documents, photographs, books) met several years. The most valuable item in the museum is the baroque 18th century icon "The Holy Mother and Child." Carving on it almost completely preserved, and experts believe that this icon may have been part of some of the iconostasis of the Orthodox church. Extremely curious portrait of Count Leo Tolstoy. After careful examination with a portrait can be seen that it is the words of the sonnet, which, if desired, you can even read it. The exhibition also contains documents and photographs of the XIX century, reproducing the life of the era of Kyiv residents and charitable activities.
The main exhibit, of course, is directly Peter House, renovated in 2007. The museum occupies a second floor. Resume period interior visit of the king in today's time is not possible, because the archive, where it would be discussed, no. So have the characteristic of the era of publication, furniture, pictures with different views of the city ... Some rarities purchased from collectors, and some of its exhibits have been provided funds of the State Historical and Archaeological reserve "Ancient Kiev".
