Arsenal arts, or Citadel, is today one of the most promising cultural projects in Ukraine. Citadel is a probably the most ambitious museum and cultural and artistic complex in Kiev.

It is based on a cultural and historical monument of world importance as the Old Arsenal, built at the turn of XVIII-XIX centuries Lieutenant-General Johannes Moller on the site, which previously held the Ascension Nunnery. During construction expected to achieve several goals. Firstly, the local garrison needed a building that could accommodate warehouses, repair weapons and ammunition. Secondly, it pursued purely ideological goal - to eclipse the glory of the Ascension Monastery, as he had once led Mary Magdalene Mazepin, is the mother of disgraced Ivan Mazepa, who did much for the arrangement of the monastery.

The idea of turning the building in the Old Arsenal Museum Complex was put forward several times since the 90s, but only the beginning of the XXI century, it finally began to be realized not only on paper. Since receiving in 2003 the status of cultural and artistic institutions, actively restored Art Arsenal. In parallel with the restoration of the building of Arsenal now are artistic events, presentations, exhibitions, etc. In the future, in addition to the exhibition halls accommodate electronic libraries, art labs, bookstores, classrooms, information centers, meeting rooms and much more, for example, the collection of Kiev Museum, which in the museums themselves sorely lacking space, but not so on the Arsenal arts, an area of about 50 000 square meters
