Carrauntoohil - mountain in the southwestern part of Ireland (County Kerry, Province of Munster), is part of the mountain range Macgillycuddy Ricks. The mountain Carrauntoohil is 1038 meters (3406 feet) and is the highest peak of the island of Ireland. Mountain Carrauntoohil is classified Scottish club climbers as "Furth".
Mountain Carrauntoohil is very popular among fans of mountain trekking. It is worth noting that the slopes of the mountain Carrauntoohil (as, indeed, the whole ridge Macgillycuddy Rix) are composed mainly of sandstone and strongly indented in the erosion and glacial processes, resulting in here quite often observed scree and rock falls. However, Carrauntoohil not expected to be dangerous peaks for climbing this mountain does not require special climbing equipment, though excessive caution and care is still not prevent (it is not necessary to go to a separate trip for beginners and Carrauntoohil mountain trekking).
Having overcome the tedious climb to the mountain Carrauntoohil, you will be well rewarded with open before your eyes breathtaking scenery and stunning panoramic views of the peaks in the clouds sinking Macgillycuddy Ricks and bowl-shaped valley with splashing their bottom picturesque mountain lakes.
On top of the mountain you will see a huge metal cross, a height of 5 meters. The first cross was erected here in 1976, but in November 2014 it was demolished by vandals, but already a few weeks later, the cross was hoisted into place.
