Kazan National Research Technical University named after AN Tupolev is located in the center of Kazan, near the Kazan Kremlin. The main building KNRTU them. Tupolev is a former First Imperial High School.

The landowner ordered the architect F.Emelyanovu Molostov project of a two-apartment house. The building was built in 1789. Later, the building was purchased by the city authorities. It was decided to organize a school, but the building for this purpose was not enough. It was finished: there was the left wing formed by joining standing next to a house. The connecting element was the portico with six columns, and the third floor with a dome.

For merits in education and in connection with the centenary, a gymnasium (the only one in Russia) was awarded the title of Imperial. In 1804, on the basis of a grammar school was founded Kazan University. From 1804 to 1814, both educational institutions functioned together, under a single director. University student became schoolboys - graduates. V1917 year grammar school was dissolved. In the period until 1932 the building changed many owners. In 1932 the building of the former gymnasium was transferred to the Imperial Kazan Aviation Institute.

The first time in KAI had two branches: Aircraft and aerodynamic. In 1934, KAI opened Aircraft School, on the basis of these two offices. During the Great Patriotic War in KAI evacuees were transferred units and laboratories of several prominent institutes of the USSR. During this period, KAI team of leading scientists under the leadership of the country, the future president of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR - Keldysh. In 1945, the new KAI was founded, the only one in the country, the department of jet engines. He headed the Department of the future academician VP Glushko. One of the first teachers was SP Korolev. Nowadays KNRTU Tupolev trains specialists in many specialties.
