Opera and Ballet Theatre. Musa Jalil is located on Freedom Square in the center of Kazan. The theater building began to build in 1936. The author of the project was the Moscow architect NP Skvortsov. In 1948 the building was remodeled facades and interiors under the guidance of architect Kazan IG Gainutdinova.

Due to the outbreak of World War II construction of the building has been slow. It was built almost 20 years. The construction work used the labor of German prisoners. Construction was completed in the mid-fifties. In 1956 the building of a new theater opened opera Zhiganova "Altynchech."
