At 180 kilometers from Moscow is a small town Kalyazin. As the story sets the provincial cities of Russia, the history of this city is connected with the formation of fortress-monastery. Gradually, around the monastery arose and developed settlement, and later on the opposite sides of the river there were 2 more settlements, which were merged in 1775 and received city status by order of Empress Catherine II.
In 1940 Kalyazin was in a flood zone, and lost 2/3 of the old town, its main cultural and historical values. Miraculously survived historical basis of the last, a unique archive of eternity, the pride of the local population - Kalyazinsky museum.
Kalyazinsky Museum was founded in 1920. It is located in the former Church of the Epiphany, built in 1781. In 1990 it opened a new exhibition of the museum.
In the first section the exhibition presents the climatic features of the region, flora and fauna. The Department of Archaeology, visitors can get acquainted with the settlement of primitive people in the territory of Kalyazin district, with the emergence of the city Ksnyatin (1134). There is exhibited an archeological map of the area, the elements of ceramic vessels, stone tools, axes of stone, jewelry, arrowheads made of bone and stone.
Next exposition department tells the story of the formation and development of the Trinity Monastery. Here, before the eyes of visitors there frescoes on the walls of the monastery of the XV century, it is possible to learn about the technology of their creation, the development of crafts XV-XVII centuries, etc.
At the beginning of the XVII century Kalyazin turned into an arena of a bitter struggle against foreign intervention. In these areas, there was a battle of Russian troops under the control of Prince Mikhail Vasilyevich Skopin-Shumsky with the Polish army. Fighting atmosphere of the time prevails in many things: alarm bell, weapons (halberd, axes, spearheads), chain mail, guns and nuclei.
The construction of the water system Vyshnevolotskaya produced in the era of Peter the Great, was the impetus for the development of trade and crafts. Sample Volga barge, ship cannons, an anchor tell us about the development of navigation.
