From the fortress, established in 1492 and marked the beginning of Ivangorod, have survived only a few fragments. It was the quadrangle fortress with four square towers at the corners, with walls built of local limestone, and having a thickness of 3 m. The walls ended with battlements, which housed loopholes.
In 1496 work began on the reconstruction of the fortifications: the east side of the fortress built a vastly superior size new rectangular fortress, which was later called the Big Bojarshy city. Thus, the two corner towers of the old fortress in 1492 as it appeared in the wall of the new.
Big Bojarshy city was extended from west to east, the total length of the wall 617 meters. At the corners were four round towers, between which is placed a rectangular tower. Two towers, in which there were gates, came to us in the reconstructed shape. So on the site Gate Tower in the XVI century it was built Discharge octagonal tower, which was a trap for the enemy, as it had no cover and from the battlements of the fortress wall, are easily exposed. In the XIX century, the tower was restored.
In 1507 the Big Bojarshy city from the west, and to the edge of the cliff leading down to the river, built a new fortification, which later received the name of the castle, which is fully absorbed the original castle in 1492. Two interesting tower was built in the walls of the Castle, one - The well, the other - the highest - Powder, with a viewing platform which the river Narva.
Throughout the XVI century were construction works to improve and strengthen the fortress. In the XVII century construction works were completed extension to the north-western part of the fortress town of Front. The construction of the Near city with its two towers (Tower Steward and Dlinnoshejaja), the entire territory of the Maiden Mountain was built. Ivangorod became even more unapproachable defensive fortification.
Despite the fact that the ensemble was created on the land for a considerable length of time (from the end of XV to the beginning of XVII century), Ivangorod fortress is an integral, logically completed architectural work.
