Franciscan Church Hofkirche was built 1553-1563 years by order of Emperor Ferdinand I, as a mausoleum for his grandfather - Maximilian I.
On the marble sarcophagus statue of the Emperor, kneeling. 24 relief sarcophagus depict scenes from the life of the Emperor Maximilian. Tomb surround 28 bronze statues representing his ancestors. The statues were cast in the 1550s. They are taller than a man. One of the statues depicts a father-Maximilian - Charles the Bold, the other - Clovis, king of the Franks.
In fact, the sarcophagus is empty - the body of the late emperor's resting in a small town in Lower Austria.
In the Silver Chapel of the church contains the tombs of Archduke Ferdinand II and his beloved wife, Philippines Welser.
