Herceg Novi is close to the airport of Tivat, a little further from the city of Dubrovnik is located, and still further to 114 kilometers - Podgorica.

Date of foundation of the city - in 1382. Initially, Bosnian ruler Tvrtko I called it Sveti Stefan. One hundred years after its founding, the city was conquered by the Turks, whose rule lasted until 1682. In addition, Herceg Novi managed to get in the hands of the Spaniards - from 1538 to 1539. From 1688 Herceg Novi became the property of the Venetians, which included the city in the land "Venetian Albania."

After the Venetian rule in Herceg Novi passed Austro-Hungarian Empire, which control over the city lasted until 1806. After that, the city for the Russian Empire, the rule, after which the city passed into the power of the French - from 1807 until 1813. Then, the power was again in the hands of Austria-Hungary until 1918. Later in the XX century the city became part of the now defunct Yugoslavia. Today over it again flying the flag of Montenegro.

Old city in modern Herceg Novi - is its heart and soul, where the ancient buildings and monasteries. Some buildings were surviving even after the earthquake, and some have been renovated with modern materials.

Old town of Herceg Novi is separated from the modern buildings of the road. On the left side, near the waterfront, it is possible to observe the structure of the different eras. Here you can see the Catholic and Orthodox churches, romantic narrow streets, ancient fortresses, the walls of which offer magnificent views of the city and its surroundings.
