Natural Park of Monte Orlando is spread over an area of ​​89 hectares in the city of Gaeta on the coast of the Gulf of Gaeta. It consists of a ground part, which occupies 59 hectares of sea area and an area of ​​30 hectares, under the auspices of the international environmental organization WWF. The Cape itself Monte Orlando is a natural extension of the Aurunci mountain range and part of the regional park "Riviera di Ulisse", along with protected areas Dzhanola Monte Scauri and Sperlonga.

The rocky promontory of Monte Orlando has a height of 171 meters above sea level. Except for its southern part, it is uninhabited and covered with forest. On the continent it is connected by a narrow isthmus hilly, which on the one side are the outlying areas of Gaeta and civilian and military ports, on the other hand - the beach Serapio.

Land part of the park is formed by limestone rocks, which from 25 to 190 million years. Here, too, there are steep cliffs - cliffs, geological faults, krasnozems and grottos, among which deserves special attention Turkish Grotto. With regard to the waters of the park, the average depth of its waters is 30-40 meters. Among marine pay attention to the special type of algae that serves as an indicator of ecological purity of the sea - for the existence of this algae needs sunlight, which can penetrate into the thickness of only the crystal clear waters.

Since the 16th century, Monte Orlando was incorporated into the fortress of Gaeta, and in 1986 was created by a natural park. On its territory, the highest point, is a monument to Roman architecture - the mausoleum of Lucius Planck. Among the other attractions worth mentioning two small churches - one is executed in the Romanesque style, and the second was built in the 20th century. Here you can also admire a monument of nature - Montagna Spaccata, which is hanging over the Tyrrhenian Sea canyon.
