Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1563. Exposure to the gallery was formed in 1784 under the leadership of Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo. After 100 years, the main building of the Academy built a new facility, the so-called Tribune, for placing the original statue of "David" by Michelangelo. The gallery houses masterpieces by Michelangelo and others, such as "slaves." This sculptural group, created in the years 1521-1523 to decorate tombs of Pope Julius II.
The Galleria dell'Accademia, you can see a magnificent collection of paintings by famous Florentine painters, including Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Ghirlandaio and Bronzino. In one of the rooms features paintings and skuptura members of the Academy of the XIX century, including works by the sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini.
