Cathedral of St. Panteleimon the Healer, located in the town of Essentuki, is one of the city's attractions.
The first written mention of the construction of the temple dates back to 1886, when it signed a decision to establish a new church on the mound Kachelnom. In 1887 the project was approved and the plan of the temple. A year later, construction began. The author of the project was the architect of the temple Doroshenko H .. In 1896, the church was consecrated in honor of St. Panteleimon the Healer.
The temple walls were built of red brick in the popular at that time the Art Nouveau style. The temple had a quadrilateral shape of a cross. The interior of the church is striking in its beauty: Patterned stained glass windows and doors, mosaic floors, walls with biblical scenes. Yet its main decoration - a porcelain iconostasis, specially made for the house of the factory Kuznetsova.
A year later, near the church was built two-storey parish school, which also houses a library and an extensive archive. The temple was visited by such famous figures as F. Chaliapin, Kuprin A., K. Stanislavsky and S. Rachmaninoff, who at that time had a rest in Yessentuki.
In 1932 the church was used as a warehouse, and in 1935 the church suffered a sad fate of many churches at the time - it blew up. In 1992, it began construction of the main building of the cathedral. The project was developed by architect AV Travenko The construction of the temple was carried out on the donations of citizens. Above the construction of Panteleimon Church worked dozens of volunteers. Now it is a functioning temple Yessentuki.
