Indoor market of Donetsk is located on Shevchenko Street, 6. The people he has two more names: "Central Market" and "Cooperative Market." Central it is called, as it is located in the city center, and the collective farm - in Soviet times, he was almost the only place in the center, where the collective farm machines came with fruits and vegetables.

For a long time, since the beginning of its construction, few people knew that its base market is largely due to Joseph Stalin. And then the market over 37 years old bore his name. Market Hall was completed in 1961.

After the war, there was a need to build a large covered market in Stalin. May 18, 1949 a meeting of the executive committee, the then assessors Basil Feropontove where considered this question. A year before, the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture has developed scientific and technical plan for the construction of covered markets in Stalino and Kiev. But since the funds for the two projects was not enough, the construction in the capital began in 1949, and the regional center was forced to wait.

Only in May 1952 issued a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, one of the points which was the order of Stalin's Regional Executive Committee since 1953 to start the construction of the covered market. Funds for the construction were provided from contributions from the regional markets fees in the local budget. Thus, Stalin's covered market was built at the expense of regional markets.

Today this place is a great monument of architecture. But along with that it functions as a market, though inferior to the other, more recent and extensive in its size and range of products. In addition to the shopping places and storage space, there is a restaurant McDonald's, and recently opened near the bottom and covered market.
