University College Cork - National University of Ireland, Cork - a higher educational institution in the Irish city of Cork.
  The university was founded by the decree of Queen Victoria in 1845 as one of three Royal Colleges in the Emerald Isle (colleges were established in cities such as Belfast, Cork and Galway) in order to maximize opportunities for higher education in the Irish province of Munster.

New College is located in an incredibly beautiful location on the edge of the limestone cliff overlooking the River Lee. It is believed that this place is very symbolic for the residents of Cork and was chosen because it is closely associated with St. Finbar, pay very close attention to education. Nearby was located and the monastery, founded by Saint Finbar, the school in which pupils were taught both theological and secular sciences. College building was designed by talented architects Thomas Dean and Benjamin Woodward.

Its doors to the first students of the college opened November 7, 1849, and after a few years, the college has received several awards for his achievements in different fields, including mathematics, medicine and the humanities, and thus positively proved. In 1908 he was accepted «Irish Universities Act», according to which the school was renamed the "University College Cork". Today, University College Cork - one of the leading research institutions and one of the most prestigious educational institutions of the state. University College Cork is part of Union of Universities Ireland and belongs to the association of universities in Europe known as the Utrecht Network.
