Esplanade, also known as Spianada - is the largest and most popular area of ​​the city of Corfu (Kerkyra), as well as the second largest square in Europe. It is located between the old fortress town. Until the 19th century, this area was a vast wasteland and used by citizens for defense purposes.

Today, the Esplanade is the liveliest part of the modern Corfu and the favorite meeting place for locals and visitors alike. This is a unique center of commerce, recreation, and social activities and the most important city events. Every year in the summer on the square held tournament game of cricket, which became popular during British rule.
