Wat Lok Moli is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai. The exact date of its construction is not known, the first mention appears in 1367.

History of the church reads the sixth king in the dynasty Mengray named Kat, or Phra Kaew Muang, the city invited ten monks from Burma. Their goal was the development of Buddhism Theravata school in northern Thailand. Invited monks and founded Wat Lok Moli.

Temple once had a royal importance. The ruling family Mengray took him under his protection and responsibility. After their death, the remains of several representatives of the dynasty was buried in Vatu Lok Moli as a sign of recognition and respect.

In 1527 by decree of King Phra Kaew Mueang in the temple was built a beautiful chedi (stupa). Over the centuries, it is not just going through the restoration, so has survived in excellent condition. On each side of it are located niche with statues of the Buddha. At the four corners at the base of the chedi, peace Enlightened guard mythical beasts. It is in this chedi is kept dust Mengray family, founded the kingdom of Lanna (northern Thailand this area).

Viharn (central room) Wat Lok Moli is completely made of wood, decorated with amazing carvings and gilding and is a fine example of architecture in Lanna style.

At the temple is teak pavilion, where various products of this valuable and beautiful wood. The central place is occupied by the figure of the Queen Chiraprapha, undertaken so ruled from 1545 by 1546.

Access to the Wat Lok Moli through traditional gate with elegant stucco guarded by two demon-defender, statues of which are true works of art.
