Monastery of the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada), also known as the Monastery Zangoroli - one of the most impressive monasteries in Crete. This Greek Orthodox monastery located on the Akrotiri peninsula in the north of the nome of Chania (15km from Chania).

The history of the Holy Trinity monastery begins in the 17th century. Earlier, on the site of the monastery was a small ancient church, which fell into disrepair after the death of the last monk. The main church of the monastery is a cross-domed structure in which the Byzantine style is perfectly combined with columns and Corinthian styles Ionic.

The founders of the monastery are considered to be two brothers, Jeremiah and Laurentius from revered Venetian family Zangoroli .  The brothers were well educated, spoke Latin and versed in architecture, including the European .  Design and construction of the new church took over in 1611, Jeremiah, but he did not live to see the end of construction, and after his death, around 1634, Lawrence led operation .  In 1645, after the conquest by the Turks in Chania, the construction of the monastery has been suspended .  During this period, it is known as "the monastery with cypresses" .  During the Greek Revolution of 1821 the monks left the monastery, but unfortunately, they did not have the ability to hide the precious historical relics and manuscripts, which were subsequently looted and burned .  After the revolution, the monastery was restored and construction work completed .  In 1892 the monastery was opened seminary .  The monastery has a library, which holds rare books, a museum with an interesting collection of icons and manuscripts .

Monastery of the Holy Trinity, and today continues to play an important role in the life of the Church of Crete. He is one of the main historic sites of the island.
