Century City (Century City) can be considered a city within a city. It is virtually in the heart of Cape Town, 10 km north-east from the center, against the background of Table Mountain. On the territory of 250 hectares accommodate a large number of office, residential, retail, sports and leisure facilities that meet all the requirements of modern society.
At the heart of Century City are its green light - Intaki island. On 16 hectares of wetlands is a reserve rich in a wide variety of species of birds and native plants. Formerly known as Bluvley Island Intaki and its surrounding wetlands consist of 8 hectares of the island, 8 hectares reconstructed wetlands that are used for water purification, and 6 km of navigable canals linking different areas of Century City .
Work on the project began Century City construction company Monex Development in 1997, with investments exceeding 10 billion ZAR, and now continues its new owner - Rabie Property Group.
The earliest were built theme park rattan Junction and Canal Walk shopping center. Despite the high costs during construction to reduce traffic in the offseason and periodic closures during major conferences, amusement park rattan Junction proved profitable. Canal Walk Area also had to increase from 125 000 sq m to 141 000 sq m in order to meet the demand. There were also fears that the construction of Century City will lead to decentralization of the business district of Cape Town, but due to improvements conducted by the leadership of the city, this did not happen. Thus, Century City was another commercial and business center in the capital of South Africa.
Canal Walk, opened in 2000, became the largest shopping center in Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. Currently in its 141,000 square meters there are more than 400 shops, 20 cinemas, many restaurants, cafes and bars, and a large entertainment center.
Close to shopping and entertainment center Canal Walk in 2009, there are two 11-storey buildings. They are located 5-star hotel with 180 rooms, as well as a luxurious office center. Nearby there are other hotels, shopping centers and multi-level residential complexes for people of different incomes.
In 2009, according to the South African business magazine, Finweek, Century City was voted the best modern neighborhoods for middle class in South Africa.
