Rust - an Austrian town, situated in the region Burgenland on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl, near the border with Hungary. Rust is the smallest administrative district, and the lowest statutory town in Austria. He was entitled to a free city in 1681. The city is famous for its wines, especially the "Ruster Ausbruch".

In pre-Christian times, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings Celtic castle. Rust is first mentioned in 1317 as the Ceel (from Hungarian word "Szil" - "Elm") in the documents of the Hungarian King Charles I Robert. The citizens of the city got the right to market in 1470 with the legal right to use the casks of wine the letter R (the first letter of the name of the city). The city quickly grew rich thanks to winemaking, and in 1681 on the orders of the Hungarian King Leopold I became independent. In 1921, Rust was taken over by Austria.

The old town attracts many tourists every year from all corners of Europe. House 16-19 centuries in Renaissance and Baroque facades retained their beautiful windows and moldings. The picturesque arched portals, stairs and arcades - the entire old town is protected by the Hague Convention on Protection of Cultural Property. In 2001, the old town of Rust has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sam Rust was voted the most beautiful city in Burgenland. All the houses have retained their original function of residential and commercial premises.

Since 1999, the city hosts a music festival, where participants perform their songs exclusively on the guitar.
