Gardens of Santa Barbara were established in 1955 and located in the north-eastern part of the episcopal palace on a hill. These gardens are one of the most beautiful places in Portugal.

Gardens in the Italian Renaissance style spread along the west wing of this historic building, which dates from the XIV century. The west wing of the palace - the oldest part of the palace, which today is the municipal library. Near the gardens of Santa Barbara are Misericordia Church and the Cathedral of Braga.
