Braga Cathedral is one of the most significant landmarks in the city. Because of its history and artistic expression Cathedral is also one of the most magnificent structures in the country.
Construction of the cathedral was begun by Bishop Pedro in 1071. In 1089 it was completed the eastern chapels. After a short break due to the religious situation in the country, the construction of the cathedral was resumed and lasted until the mid-13th century.
The original building of the cathedral was made in the Burgundian Romanesque style. Later the cathedral was completed the new chapel, predhramie in the Gothic style, and today the cathedral is a combination of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque style and Manueline.
Inside the cathedral is divided into three naves, transept and apse with five chapels. Above the central nave are two old body. It stands out the main apse of the chapel, restored in 1509 by Archbishop Diogo de Sausa by the architect Juan de Castillo.
The facade is Gothic, outer wall of the main chapel is decorated with a sculpture of the Madonna suckling the Child, 16th century, which is located between the coat of arms of Portugal and the coat of arms of Bishop Diogo de Sausa. Some of the chapel was completed in the 14th century, such as the Royal Chapel, where are buried the parents of the first king of Portugal - Henry of Burgundy and Teresa Leonskaya and Chapel of Glory, where the tomb of Archbishop Gonzalo Pereira, guarded by six stone lions.
