The tower and the Church de Manenti located in the town of Barcelos, which is the center of the same municipality that is included in the district of Braga. Patron of the area is considered to Saint Martin of Tours, or as it is called, Martin the Merciful.
Barcelos in ancient times there was the monastery of St. Martin, which, unfortunately, have been preserved only the tower and the church de Manenti. Do not keep the information about the date of construction of the temple, but there is an assumption that the monastery was built in the first half of the tenth century. The monastery was founded by Pedro Afonso Dorraesh Don and his wife, Donna Guoting Oerish. After their death, the monastery took care of their daughter, Teresa Pires, who was married to a famous nobleman from County Condado Portukalense - Ramiro Aireshem. County - is the name of two fiefs that existed in 868-1139 years in what is now Portugal, and they were called the Condado de Portukale and Condado Portukalense. The second was more of the county territory than the first, and was founded in 1093 by Alfonso VI of Castile.
The monastery church was built in the Romanesque style, some of which were present even pre-Romanesque elements. On the wall of the church you can see the inscription, which dates back to the year 1117 and states that led the construction works of the master Gonçalo. Portal of the church is decorated with three round arches, decorated with a pattern of geometric elements. The tower has a square shape, and at one time served as a watchtower. In 1915 the church and the tower were declared a national monument in Portugal.
