Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator is one of the most vivid and expressive architectural attractions Balti (Balti).

Construction of the church was carried out from 1910 to 1914 at the expense of the rich representatives of the Armenian community of the city, namely - Mary Fokshanyan brothers Lusahanovich. As an author and the chief architect of the project was invited by a famous architect at the time, Alexander L. Krasnoselskiy, a native of Ukraine, who worked for some time in Balti as an urban architect. It is worth noting that under his leadership was built many new buildings, conducted extensive work on the improvement of the city, but it is the Armenian Church of St. Gregory was the best of his creations.

The church is made in the traditional style of medieval religious architecture in Armenia, the prototype made its famous cathedral, located in the town of Echmiadzin. The height of the church is 17 meters, it is characterized by the appearance of balance and simplicity of forms, not without grace. It is noteworthy that the Church of St. Gregory was one temple for the Armenians of two different religions - the Catholic Armenians who migrated here from the Western Ukraine, and Armenian Gregorians, who came from the Crimea and the Caucasus.

Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator has an interesting fate. So, after the war, it gave the building to the needs of the Catholic community, a few years later at the temple opened a sports school for children and youth. In the 90s of the last century the Church of St. Gregory was again transferred to the needs of the Catholic community in the city of Balti. To date, active negotiations on the return of the church to the Armenians.
