City (provincial) Avila Museum, which was opened in 1911, located in Plaza de Nalvillos and occupies two important monumental buildings of the city - the building of the Church of São Tomé el Viejo and Casa los Dines.
House Casa los Dines is an extraordinarily beautiful and unique palace, built in Renaissance style in the 16th century. It placed the main museum exhibits detailing the history of Avila. The exhibits of the first floor of the building, show the development of life and culture of the city in different historical periods. There recreated fragments of urban and rural life of the province. Rooms on the second floor devoted to the visual arts, most of the collections presented here belongs to the 19th century. In one of the halls of the second floor exhibited a magnificent Flemish triptych, referring to the beginning of the 16th century.
The building of the ancient church of Sao Tome is one of the most striking examples of Romanesque architecture in Ávila. Its western and southern facades are richly decorated with sculptural elements. The building of the church of Sao Tome exhibited a collection consisting of the artifacts found during excavations in Avila and nearby areas. There are exhibits ranging from the prehistoric period, as well as relating to the period of the Visigoths, the Muslim rule, the Board of Christian kings until the 19th century. Here you can see the tombstones and fragments of rare ancient Roman mosaics, inscriptions, architectural elements, weapons and everyday objects belonging to the Middle Ages and more.
