Mint

Mint is located in Avignon opposite the Papal Palace and contrasts them with his finish, made in Baroque style. Large carved on the facade of the building inscription says that it was built in 1619, Vice-Legate Jean-Francois de Bani (1614-1621) in honor of the then ruling Pope Paul V.

The first floor of the building, made of stone, illuminated by four windows and a doorway, but the rest of the facade without a window decorated with huge statues. Above the inscription, which are like the angels, the coat of arms of Pope Paul V (Camillo Borghese in the world) and the papal tiara. And below, on either side of the memorial inscriptions we can see the coat of arms of the dynasty Borghese, which depicts an eagle and the dragon, accented by lush garlands of fruit, which is an attribute of classical baroque style.

Probably the Vice-Legate, Jean-Francois de Bani, also wanted to praise the legate of Avignon Scipione Caffarelli (1607-1621), nephew of the Pope, who later became Cardinal Scipione Borghese. It is also famous as a tireless philanthropist and art collector. Unfortunately, the archives were destroyed and lost. And about the "author of the Italian facade of Avignon, who suffered a Rome on the banks of the Rhone River" (Zh.Zhirar) more unknown.

Since 1860, there has always Conservatory of Music named after the composer Olivier Messier (1908-1992), one of the most famous residents of Avignon XX century. However, in 2007 the conservatory was moved to another building.
