In addition to the painted boats that float through the city, Aveiro is also known buildings constructed in the Art Nouveau style. Art Nouveau, or else it is called "modern", originated in France and quickly spread throughout Europe.

The buildings, built in the Art Nouveau style, a lot not only in Aveiro, but also in Lisbon and Porto. Inside the walls of the house are decorated with colorful tiles "azulezush", which depicts the local scenery, birds, animals and flowers. It was in this house is a museum of modern art Aveiro.

Design of the building of the museum engaged architects Silvia Rocha and Ernest Corrodi. The house, which is now a museum, was built in 1909 and is a privately owned family Pessoa. He has long stood in ruins. Then he moved to the state property, it completely restored and turned into a museum of contemporary art. The museum is very big, so on the first floor has a map with which to easily navigate in the museum. The first floor is devoted to building, built in the traditional style of Art Nouveau.
