Church of Mercy in Aveiro is located in the same square as the Town Hall. Initially, the church was responsible for the project by the Italian architect Filippo Terzi. Building under his leadership, it was launched in 1585. It is worth noting that the architect also built many other buildings in Portugal, which included not only the church but also the forts. The church was built a very long time. Completing the construction in 1653 is another architect, the Portuguese Manuel Azen.

Inside, the church has a long high nave and very luxuriously decorated. The walls are covered with tiles, azulezush with patterned ornament of the XVI century. In the altar of the temple attracts a vaulted ceiling. It should be noted that the ceiling made of stone brought from the province of Ansan, and is used in the construction of the monuments in this part of Portugal.
