Church of St. Dominic (founded in 1423), which today is called Aveiro Cathedral (or Cathedral of San -Domingush), located in the heart of the city, which is often referred to as the Portuguese Venice because of the two channels with arched bridges that cross Aveiro.

Church of St. Dominic, formerly located in the eponymous monastery was consecrated in 1464. After the ban was imposed on the religious orders, the monastery was turned into a barracks. After a while, the monastery was burned and the church, which is not affected by the fire, became a cathedral.

Baroque portal of the cathedral is surrounded by four twisted columns and decorated with the image of the Three Graces, executed in 1719. The nave of the cathedral is framed by a window in the form of eggs. The interior of the cathedral is striking works of art, but attracted attention in the courtyard of a cross, made in the Gothic style (late 15th century).

For ages 16-17 was reconstructed cathedral, which has modified the facade of the building. A characteristic feature of the temple is a combination of several architectural styles, namely mannerist (side chapels), baroque (high choir, vaults and cross) and modernism (the transept and the main chapel).

Since 1996 the cathedral is listed monuments that represent the public interest, and the city of Aveiro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
