May 3, 1837, at the residence of the famous Greek architect Stamatis Kleantesa, was founded National University of Athens Ioannis Capodistrias (University of Athens). The university is named after the first president of Greece. Previously, it was known as the University of Otto. In 1841, classes were transferred to the new building, designed by the Danish architect Theophil von Hansen. The old building now houses the Museum of History of the University of Athens.
