The museum is housed in an elegant Florentine style mansion, built in the middle of the XIX century. In the 30 years of the twentieth century, on the initiative of the collector Georgis Sotiriou and with the assistance of the architect Aristotelis Zahosa mansion was turned into a museum. The entrance was decorated in a cloister where to place a copy of the fountain from the Monastery of Daphni with mosaic panels.

The museum exhibition includes more than 1,500-year period and are arranged chronologically. The first floor presents various options for decoration and architectural details early Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches, as well as a collection of icons and sculptures. The second floor presents a variety of subjects related to the rites of the church, including the unique pattern of gold embroidery of the XIV century from Thessaloniki depicting scenes Lamentation. It also presents a collection of icons and frescoes of the Greek diaspora.
