The Museum of History is located in the fishing village of Greenhouses and was founded in 1998. The exposition located in the former mansion of industrialist Peter Kozhevnikov, who created one of the first fisheries in these parts.
Greenhouse Village is at the mouth of the Volga and the two sides by the rivers. Due to the large amount of reeds this region for a long time it was empty. The first mention of the village dates from the year 1740. Then on its territory it lived only 40 people who were engaged in fishing and fish oil elaboration. Hence the first name of the village - Zhirovnya.
At the beginning of XVIII century Peter Kozhevnikov bought land and founded the local fisheries. It is noteworthy that not only the sons Kozhevnikova continued his father's work, but also largely contributed to the development of the village. For example, one of them was an avid gardener, and even in such hot areas like Astrakhan, was able to create a unique community garden, plants for which brings even Jamaica.
In 1918 the company was nationalized, but it continued to conduct successful operations up so our time. Today it is "Greenhouse fish factory". The opening of the museum in 1986 contributed to NN Potapov, who served for many years head of the company. The exposition consists of archive documents, photographs, household items and other artifacts that tell the story of the development of the fishing hothouse plant from the beginning to the present day. The exposition occupies four halls. At the moment, the museum is a branch of the Astrakhan State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.
