Numana - a coastal town near Ancona. In ancient times it was known as Humana. Legend has it that the founder of the city was the mythical Queen Pichenis - female giant, half of the body which had the shape of a snake, and which grew on the back of huge wings. She threw fireballs ashore, burning down the forest, and rose from the ashes of Humana, which in Latin means "man."
Numana is located in the heart of the Adriatic coast of Italy on the southern spur of Monte Conero. Almost 92% of the city is part of the Regional Park of "Monte Conero".
The old part of the city is often called the "Numan viola", because it lies on top of a cliff overlooking the sea, and is almost a continuation of another resort town - Sirolo. "Numana Bassa" also covers the area around the port. Beach top Numana includes two small coves - the so-called Spyaddzhola Beach.
